Ooh, New Blog Smell!

One of the trickiest things about blogging is actually getting started.  You want to make a good first impression, even in front of strangers that you'll incredibly unlikely to ever meet.  It's incredibly easy to procrastinate, fiddling with the design and visuals and never get any actual writing done, which is why I've decided to just take the plunge and write something.  Write anything, just to get the ball rolling.  Rather than try and come up with something profound, I'm just going to talk about a subject that I know very well: me.

I'm a thoroughly geeky guy who has very recently entered his thirties.  This means I grew up in what seems like the "Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons."  Seriously, Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats, you name it, I probably watched it.  I'm similarly enamoured with videogames, having cut my teeth on platforms like the Sinclair Spectrum, Sega Master System, and the Super Nintendo.  I loved playing games as a kid, and I love playing them now just as much, if not more.

I like comic books, too: mostly superhero comics, but I've also enjoyed more quirky fare like DC's Vertigo line in the 90s and books like Fell by Warren Ellis and Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse by Ben Templesmith. After way too long spent watching nothing but genre movies, I'm also starting to become a movie buff, albeit a rather part time one.

If you haven't guessed, the plan is to make this a rather geekery-heavy blog.  It won't all be videogames and comics though, as I'm also interested in technology, social media, politics - I'm rather liberal by the way - and diversity issues.  Oh, and amateur dramatics: I'm part of my local amateur dramatics society,

So yeah, that's a little bit about me, and what I plan to write about.  It's by no means an exhaustive list - I spend a lot of time online, so I often come across things that interests me - but it's a start.

EDIT:  Oh yeah, I also play table top RPGs.  I've been playing them for nearly twenty years.  I'm not sure how I forgot to mention that.
